Ta-Da!!!

Caleb peed in the potty! He is amazing, yay! He suddenly decided last week while our friend Bethany was here that he was ready to sit on the potty sans diaper, and after a week of sporadically asking to sit on it and never doing anything, he actually did his business. We are so proud. :)

Who's Calling Us?

This is how a conversation with my 2-year-old went today.

Amy--"Do you love your mama?"

Caleb--"Yeah."

Amy--"You love your daddy?"

Caleb--"Yeah."

Amy--"You love Beckett?"

Caleb--"Yeah."

Amy--"You love Grandma?"

Caleb--"Yeah."

Amy--"You love Uncle Karl?"

Caleb--"Yeah."

Amy--"You love Aunt Ali?"

Caleb--"Yeah."

Amy--"You love Jesus?"

Caleb--"Yeah."

(phone rings)

Caleb--::gasp:: "It's Jesus!"

He can eat Peanut Butter Sandwiches

Some of you may know that Caleb has a little allergy problem. He is allergic to:
  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Beef
  • Possibly Nuts
  • Possibly Shellfish
But today, he was given the ok on Peanuts. This is a bad allergy that cannot be tested until they are older, like around 2-3 years old. He was tested today and all is well. This is his back after all the scratch tests.

For Beckett, Amy must be careful what to eat while she nurses as well. Crazy.

We finally have a normal little boy that can eat PB&J. Next up, Mac and cheese.

Oh and don't tell any of the other Texans he's allergic to beef, it may be illegal in this country (Texas).

Shortest Haircut EVER!!!

Lucky it's Caleb, and not me. :) The kid has just been so sweaty lately, and I couldn't get his hair short enough using scissors, so tonight we caved and we took clippers to his head. I would've loved to use the #3, but our kit gave us two #4's and skipped the #3 entirely, so instead I used a #2. It is SHORT. And it makes his head look pretty round. But the more we look at it, the cuter we think he is. He definitely looks boyish. And his mouth looks EXACTLY like my niece Lydia's in that tiny grin picture. I've never seen a resemblance between them before, but I think it's pretty cool that it's there now. :) Oh, and Kenn says Caleb looks like Fester. Lovely.

Our Son, the Genius

Well friends, an important milestone was met today by our very own Caleb. What could it be, you ask? Has he learned the secret art of holding it? Can he now multiply large sums in his head? Did he discover that tiny objects can fit into his nose? Oh no, it is a skill beyond all these other trivial accomplishments, something the wisest of us often cannot master until well into our later years. Ladies and gentlemen, Caleb can now...drink through a straw. ::wild applause::

It's A Sweater!!! And apparently, also a Toy!

It never ceases to amaze me the things that Caleb can find to play with that are not conventional toys. Take these pictures for instance--what did he find to play with here?? Mom's hooded sweater! It became a great game of throwing it over his head, and saying "Where's Caleb? Where did he go?" and Caleb simultaneously giggling and struggling to free himself. It was at least a good 10 minutes or so of entertainment, which all you moms out there know is a hot commodity. It's not just sweaters, though. Another one of his recent discoveries is the cabinet full of plastic bowls, all neatly nested together. The game with those is to pull them out of the cupboard, separate them all, and then kick/carry/push them to all corners of the house. GREAT fun for Mom. :) But what can I do? It entertains him, it's really not that big of a mess, and he has at least learned to pick them up again. What the heck, kid, play with anything you want. I give up. :)

caleb had surgery? I don't believe it!

Looking at this kid, you'd never know that he was cut into 3 days ago. It was a pretty quick recovery, all things considered. We kept him on Tylenol w/ Codeine on Monday after we came home, and then Tuesday he just got Motrin, and yesterday was nothing at all. He has been playing and running around, and aside from a few cranky moments, he has bounced right back. He still has the dressing on the surgical site, and that will stay on for about 6 more days, but then he should be good to go, and the steri-strips will fall off on their own in 2-3 weeks. I'm impressed with how Caleb handled the whole thing. He is quite the trooper. It's been nice to have my little man back to normal the last few days, though. If only these adorable pictures weren't so fuzzy...

Caleb's Surgery

Here we are at the Austin Pediatric Surgery Center. Caleb has a hernia, quite common actually. I thought I'd take this opportunity to update the family on his progress. Right now we are in the waiting room, well the post op recovery area, waiting for him to be done.

He's done quite well considering all the new people and strange clothes he's had to wear.

He gave us a little Go Team before he went in as well.
UPDATE: 7:51AM, his surgery went well, it was a very small hernia and we are now just waiting for him to come see us. The doctor came and talked to us for a bit and things looked really good. Here is a picture of mom and Caleb as he tries to wake up.
