I guess I knew there was a reason that I picked boy fabrics, although I told myself it was because of Caleb. :) So I'm quite happy with how this blankt came together, and I definitely learned a LOT about good and bad ways to make a rag quilt. I cut individual blocks of batting and the backer-fabric for each piece, but I think next time I would just piece the front fabrics and do a solid batting piece and solid backer instead. I probably will give this blanket to Caleb for his 2nd birthday, because it's kind of big for a baby, but looks about right for a toddler bed. Plus, the frayed pieces of batting might be of some concern for a baby, but I think/hope that Caleb will know not to eat them. At any rate, I'm quite proud of myself. I think it turned out really cute.Labels: projects

Amy,
I am quite proud of you too! I wish you lived here and could show me how to do it!
Looks great! I love the colors!
I thought they were fun to make, although we ought to trade our secrets!! I didn't do batting, just the two layers so I could cut the pieces and stitch them together with an X. the rest went together so fast I couldn't believe it, althoughthe clipping takes forever!!
It turned out so great!!! Way to go you! I'm hoping to get mine done soon... I'm coming off of a crafty high and just have a great urge to sew until the day ends.
Anyway... hooray for the craftiness and for a birthday present that is already done!
Unfortunately, I can't take credit for the color scheme. It was a little bundle of fabrics, pre-packaged, at Joann. Except for the blue one with the trains and planes and trucks, that one I found in the scrap bin and was excited it matched the rest. :) I think I will do it different next time--I never thought about skipping the batting entirely, but I guess that is an option. It might be a while until I do another, though. Bethany, you're so right--that clipping takes FOREVER!
