Running with a Full Tummy

I got to do another 5K last weekend! The original plan was to run in the Seawall Half-Marathon in Galveston in the middle of November, and that's what Candace and I have been training for since April. But then they cancelled it. :( We tried to find another half to do around the same time, but the only real options were in VERY hilly Hill Country (which we hadn't trained for) or this crazy one in Houston (which we couldn't PAY for). So in the end we decided to just keep working towards our half-marathon distance on our own, and we'd run the Teravista 5K just for funsies.

Candace and I before the race--it was super cold outside, between 40 and 45 degrees!

Coming into the finish! Don't I look like a runner with the sunglasses and headphones and pregnant belly...wait...no, not the belly.

Now, the thing to notice here is NOT the amazing wedgie I was rocking, but the half-legible time on the clock. I was expecting to go pretty slow, seeing as I hurt myself when I try to run fast, so as I came in I figured the clock was saying 56:11.

But it wasn't!!! It said 36:11!!!
I think that's a miracle.
And I didn't hurt myself, either! ALSO a miracle!

I was feeling pretty good after the first 1- 1 1/2 miles, so I decided to pick up my pace a bit just to see if I could. And I ROCKED the hill at the end, as did Candace. We both kept our pace the whole way up the hill, something we were NOT able to do last year in the 10K.

The only sad part was this was the first time that Candace and I ran a whole race apart. I didn't want to hold her back, so she took off at a quicker pace from the start, and she did amazing. She shaved 4 minutes off her previous 5K time, running it in 32 minutes. I'm way proud of her. :)

Yay us!
(and a BIG thanks to Nate for taking all the pictures!)

All in all, it was a great race. The food wasn't as good as last year, but it was protein, and that was all I needed. And at least the t-shirt was slightly more attractive. :)

And for anyone who cares, we DID run a half-marathon distance last month. It was supposed to only be 12 miles, but there wasn't a 6-mile marker for us to turn around at, so we ended up turning around at the 'Half-Marathon Turn-Around' sign. oops. :) And it was painful, for me at least. I was horribly sore for 2 days, and I lost 2 toenails (I think getting runner's toe makes me officially a real runner, finally!).

Time will tell if we attempt it again anytime soon...I do just keep getting bigger...

But I love it! I can only imagine what my time would've been if I wasn't almost 22-weeks pregnant. And there's my motivation for next year!

Gender

Most likely, this is old news now, but I thought I'd better post it here anyways.

Here are some pics of our baby GIRL!!! :D

I'm sure someday she'll be thrilled to know that we plastered an image of her girl parts on the internet.
oh well. :)

Look at this face!

Hard to tell for sure, but she looks cute to me. And yes, I'm a little excited. I've always wanted a girl, and I was so afraid that this baby was going to be boy #3, so I'm thrilled that we get to experience having a daughter.

And Kenn has already realized that this little lady is going to have him wrapped around her little finger. ;)

Speaking of Kenn, he has some awesome co-workers. They were so excited that we're getting a girl that a bunch of them wore pink to work the day after the ultrasound, and they got us this sweet balloon.

I think it's finally sunk in that we're getting a girl. I was at Target this morning getting some nursery décor ideas, and I was sucked in by some adorable onesies in dark purple, giraffe print, and light purple (naturally, there were elephants involved as well).

And one of them says 'Daddy's Girl' on it. :*) ::sigh:: And it begins...

Bring on the pink!
