Hey, we went to Michigan for a week in August! Does anyone really know what we did? NO! Of COURSE not, as I have yet to blog about it at ALL!
But now you can find out. :)
So we drove for a couple days, and got to Michigan Sunday night. Crashed at my sister's for the week. Monday was spent resting and recuperating from 2 days in the car with the boys. And then on Tuesday we spent the day with my parents, and went up to Frankenmuth.
Now, if you've never been there, you should definitely go. It's a fun little touristy town, and it's home to
Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, which I kid you not is a wonderland in every sense of the word. The place feels like MILES of Christmas, it's amazing. I had actually never been there that I could remember, and it was so fun to look around. The boys loved seeing all the ornaments and decorations ("Santa!! Snowman!!"). Good times were definitely had by all. We even got this year's ornament, which looks like this one, except it says 'Caleb 2011' instead of Robert.

So after wandering Bronner's for a while we were pretty hungry, and if there's one thing Frankenmuth does well it's FEED people. We went to Zehnder's for a family-style chicken dinner, and it was AMAZING!!! I can eat, a lot, as Kenn could definitely tell you, but even I was amazed by how much I actually ate at lunch. There was fried chicken, buttered noodles with cracker crumbs, cranberry relish, 3 kinds of bread, mixed veggies, cheese spread, cottage cheese, gravy, mashed potatoes, and even ice cream for dessert. I was impressed that they even had some things that were Caleb-safe (he got some whitefish, and he LOVED it). Fabulous meal. :)
So you stuff yourself, and then you go outside and take a picture of your face on a giant chicken! Such fun! :)
And that day was all about the food. We went back to my parents' house and just hung out and watched Caleb get violent with a game on the Wii (hilarious!), and then went to Ruby Tuesday for dinner, and after dinner we HAD to go to
Uncle Ray's Dairyland. This place was my favorite ice cream place all growing up. It's in Fenton, and it's been there for so long, and it's wonderful.

Caleb got one of those sugary slushie drinks, and was quite happy
My mom might kill me for posting this picture, but it's the only one from the whole day with either of my parents IN it!
So my heart was set on having a Fried Egg on Toast, which doesn't sound like ice cream, but it is. It's a slice of pound cake, topped with vanilla soft serve, then that's topped with a peach half. It's so yummy, and I tried to get one when we went a few years ago and they didn't have any pound cake. So I was still hankering pretty bad for this, and Kenn went to the window to order and the girl looked at him like he was crazy when he said it. Apparently, it's no longer on the menu! But Crazy Dave, who is Uncle Ray's son and now owns and runs it, heard us, and said 'We haven't made a Fried Egg on Toast in years!', amazed I even remembered them. I explained my predicament, living in Texas and getting up there rarely, and he offered to go to the grocery store down the street to get pound cake and make me one! Of course I accepted, I mean, I'm not stupid. :)
So about 10 minutes later he comes out the door towards us yelling "Fried Egg on Toast! One Fried Egg on Toast!" and I may or may not have jumped up and down like a 5-year-old.
But it gets better...
He made me TWO, AND he didn't let us pay for them!!!
This is me with Crazy Dave, and the deliciousness. :)
It was awesome!!! It made my WHOLE day! They tasted perfect (yes, I ate both. How could I not???) And it was so happy and wonderful and fabulous.
Greatest. Place. Ever. If you're ever around there, definitely go. They serve nothing but goodness. :)
